Sunday 20 July 2014, and my second time out as ride leader. Six group riders enjoyed a wonderful ride through the midlands and in to mid-Wales along some truly magnificent roads. The ride through the Elan valley was bathed in glorious sunshine, making the ride even more enjoyable. Stunning roads and beautiful scenery was on offer for us, and we took full advantage. We even took the opportunity to enjoy ice cream and a walk down to the three bridges at ‘Devil’s Bridge’.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a British summer ride-out if it didn’t rain, and as we left Wales and crossed the border back in to England the clouds opened and the rain cooled us down slightly. But it was only a brief shower and the sunshine was soon back out to end the day drenched in sunshine again.
We made good, steady progress and covered 280-miles in total. Add on the various distances people had to ride to the start/finish point and we were well over 300-miles for the day.
