I would like to thank David Bettison for his patience and encouragement throughout my training for the IAM advanced qualification. Also a mention for Amanda Nixon and Mark Collier for their help too. I was surprised and delighted to get a First on my test. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and intend to continue with the DAM.
I would like to thank my observer Mark Collier for his guidance and support in preparation for my IAM test. I achieved an overall 1st and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. Kind Regards Dave (David Tapp)
I firmly believe that the IAM advanced motorbike course greatly improved my riding ability. The weekly ride outs and ongoing assessment and discussions about my riding improved my confidence as well as my observational awareness, ultimately allowing me to enjoy my riding even more
I am very pleased to confirm that I did achieve a F1rst pass and can congratulate Mark on my being his F1rst 😉 “Thank you to DAM for the expertise, time and effort provided to me leading to my successful pass of a F1rst”
I decided I would join the local I.A.M. to improve my riding, l met up with Geoff Salt who was my Observer, and aswell as the improvement in my riding the enjoyment had returned, I now go on rides out with the club and the fun of motorcycling is back I now see and I am aware of much more, my riding is now safer.
With IAM training my own riding has changed bigtime, My forward observation has improved dramatically, resulting in better and safer progress. I have improved bike control along with an better all round awarenesss of what’s happening around me. So its been a very worthwhile journey.
It took me around 10 sessions to get up to the required standards and my time with you certainly beat riding around aimlessly on a Sunday morning on a route you know or “learning” from your mates who may or may not actually be the best role models.
I have found the course, and particularly the observed rides with Geoff, of enormous value and I’m not exaggerating when I say they have transformed my riding. I found the course hard, because I had to come off autopilot and do things consciously, but I very quickly started to see the ‘system’ working for me so I stuck with it.
I started going out for observed rides with Derby IAM Group about 7 months after passing my test (having taken the DAS route), despite my inexperience I'd always felt safe on the roads but figured that a liFle more guided experience couldn't hurt.
I have a history in biking going back to my early teens when I was a real tearaway, and I count myself lucky to have made it this far. Last year, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to make my biking as safe as I possibly could and, earlier this year, finally contacted Geoff to enrol me on the IAM course. At the time, I was thinking about offering to do some Blood Biking, hence the need to be IAM approved.
