Club Night – 11th September 2017

Club Night  – 11th September 2017 – 7.30pm Onwards

Monday’s Club night was well attended.   We couldn’t welcome any new members on this occasion; however, it was good to see some Members who haven’t attended for a little while coming back into the fold, in addition to meeting some members from out of the area.

Special Presentation

You may be aware that IAM have designated this year as year of the Observer and they have decided to recognise the hard work put in by our Training Teams for their help in getting members through their tests.  It therefore gave me great pleasure to be able to present to our very own Geoff Salt, a metal pin badge recognising Geoff’s achievement in helping over 100 Associates to pass their advanced tests.  Geoff joked that he had probably ridden more than 30,000 miles whilst training individuals and spent a not inconsiderable sum of money in his endeavours but that he felt that if this had only managed to save 1 life, then his efforts were entirely justified and worthwhile.  I believe I speak now for all members past and present in thanking Geoff sincerely for all his tireless help and support over the last 21 years.

IAM Roadsmart have recently introduced Pin Badges to celebrate achievements of their observers.

Geoff is pictured receiving his at the club night.  The picture below shows a close up of all the badges available – Geoff has received the highest possible award of badge!

Recent Events

Carl Haynes very kindly lead a ride to Holmefirth on Sunday 3rd September –many riders enjoyed the scenery and if you’re a member of the Facebook group you’ll be able to see a short video posted up by one of the members in the event posting.  Sadly, I haven’t any official pictures to show you so I borrowed one posted into Facebook!

Upcoming Events

Our colleagues over at Nottingham IAM have a Rideout on Saturday 23rd September –  8.30am Squires Bike Show – If you’re interested in attending, please visit their website for further details.

Sunday 1st October – Peter Serhatlic’s Rideout.  I really do need an expression of interest for this ride, if you think it’s something you’d like to attend, please do let me know.  If insufficient people say they wish to attend the ride will be cancelled.  Essentially, we will ride from Derby, up to Ferrybridge Services at the A1M/M62. Where we will meet Peter.  There will then be a Loop ride towards Scarborough, albeit we won’t be going to the seaside!  If you wish to attend please do let me know as I will be advising Peter no later than Saturday 23rd whether or not we will be attending!

November – Date to be advised.  – Ride to Donna Nook to see the seals.  We’re currently waiting on the date for this ride as it is dependent upon when it is open.

Adhoc Rides  – We may be able to let you all know about adhoc rideouts, however these are run independent of the club.  It really does depend on riders letting us know that they’re planning on nipping out.  They are unofficial rides so while we’ll publish them, we cannot take responsibility for them.  If you have a Facebook account, please keep an eye on our group!  If you wish to publish your rideout for others to enjoy, get in touch and we’ll pop it out there!

As previously advised we are working on more events so I do hope to be updating you soon with a few more dates, however if you do have suggestions for rideouts, please do pass them on to Gordon Constable.

Committee Changes:-

David Saxton has very kindly agreed to take on the role as Treasurer.  David will be working closely with Mick Ford to learn the ropes.  Once the transition is almost complete we’ll update you.  In the meantime, thanks must go to Mick for all his help over the years and indeed for helping smooth over the transition of your role to David.  Thank you once again Mick!

Next Club Night – Monday 9th October

Next Club Night we’d like to run a Motorcycle Accessory Swap Shop – if you have something you’d like to try and swap with another member please bring it along.  Alternatively, if there’s something that you’d just like to offer to another member, FOC – again please bring it along.

I look forward to seeing you all in October – in the meantime please ride safely!
